Definitions of terms and phrases commonly used in ventilated and raised applications.

  • Raised flooring
    Factory-made flooring system including panels supported by a substructure consisting of pedestals and stringers or other components, as the case may be, and that provides a load-bearing structure for finishing a building.
  • Reference service life
    Expected service life of the building or of its parts in specific reference conditions of use.
  • Reliability
    The reliability of a technical element (or of a system of elements) is understood to refer to the probability that the system or element will work to a specific level without failures for a certain period of time t and in pre-established environmental conditions. It is the probability that the quality of a building object (technical element, technological subsystem) will remain substantially unchanged in time according to given conditions of use.
  • Rivet
    Fixing element that enables a union between two or more elements (for a maximum thickness of about 30 mm), made of aluminium or stainless steel. Its application requires a single hole and access is required from only one side of the elements to be joined together.
